About City Bylaws

Just like there are federal and provincial laws, the City of Edmonton has bylaws to keep the city clean, safe, and organized. The main types of bylaws are for:
- Traffic and parking tickets
- Community concerns like snow shovelling and garage sales
- Business operations
- Animal control
Bylaws are mostly about common sense and good manners: don't litter, be considerate of your neighbours, and don't do anything dangerous. If you break a bylaw, the City can give you a ticket and charge you a fine.
If you disagree with a bylaw and think it should be changed, you can talk to your City Councillor and let them know what you think.
