Mayor and City Council
Decisions about how our City runs are made by City Council. Edmonton's City Council is made up of 13 elected representatives including one Mayor and 12 City Councillors. The mayor is elected by all Edmontonians who vote in the civic election. Councillors are elected by voters in the wards they represent. Edmonton has six wards and each ward is represented by two councillors who serve three-year terms.
In Alberta, we have municipal elections every three years on the third Monday of October.
City Councillors are elected to represent the interests of citizens in their wards, so it's your job to tell them what you think.
The City is currently reviewing its two Councillors-per-ward system, so for the next election, there may be a change to 12 wards, with one Councillor per ward.
