Fort Edmonton Park and John Janzen Nature Centre

Steam Train

If you are interested in history, Fort Edmonton Park is a great place to explore our past. You can walk through buildings from our days as a fur trading fort right up to the 1920’s. Costumed interpreters (wouldn't that be a fun summer job?) act out the parts of farmers, bakers, and business owners. You can ride on a streetcar, the old steam engine or a horse-drawn buggy...or take an even wilder ride on the old-style midway!

There are also programs that run throughout the day, and seasonal events like Dominion Day and Christmas celebrations.

Just outside Fort Edmonton is the John Janzen Nature Centre where you can discover nature in the city. You can find out about the natural history of our area including the native plants and animals through displays, nature walks, and classes.
