Museums
John Walter Museum
Located at the bottom of Walterdale Hill near the Kinsmen Centre, this museum recreates the homes of one of Edmonton’s pioneers. Go to learn how to make ice cream in the summer or listen to Christmas concerts in the winter. Admission is free. Donations accepted.
Royal Alberta Museum
Museums are a great place to learn things, but the Royal Alberta Museum is also a beautiful place to just hang out. There are three permanent galleries: Wild Alberta; Syncrude Gallery of Aboriginal Culture; and the Natural History Gallery. The feature exhibits are always changing, from history to art to shows that tour the world. The museum is in a park so you can explore the grounds as well. Admission is half-price from 9 to 11am on weekends.
Telus World of Science
This science centre, a stunning building designed by Alberta architect Douglas Cardinal. It’s located in Coronation Park, near Peter Hemingway Fitness and Leisure Centre and the old planetarium. You should have a look at those, too - they’re pretty interesting buildings. The Telus World of Science, though, has permanent displays on biology, the environment, and space, but also has changing exhibits as well as an IMAX theatre, planetarium, science and computer lab, observatory, and a ham radio station.
