Citadel Theatre

There is no shortage of live theatres in Edmonton -- it’s a theatre-goers' town!

The biggest is the Citadel, which houses three stages under one roof, showing everything from the classics to the latest work from local and international writers, to a kids’ series and an annual musical. You can get tickets at a special student rate, with I.D. They also host the Teens @ The Turn Festival for teenagers interested in acting, writing, directing or set design.

The Roxy Theatre is home to Theatre Network, a company that produces smaller productions of challenging new plays. You can also see plays from some of Edmonton’s smaller companies. The Expanse Movement Arts Festival also runs here, as well as Nextfest, the annual festival of the arts for emerging artists.

The Varscona Theatre on the south side has two theatre companies that hold their seasons there, Shadow Theatre and Teatro de la Quindicina. You can also catch improv comedy here from Rapid Fire theatre, as well as the late night faux talk show, Oh Susanna!

And the Edmonton Opera has a program called the Explorers Club for young people between the ages of 18 and 29 that lets you in for cheap, plus a special intermission reception for members.
